When Your Pet Arrives Home From Boarding.
A lot of animals find the boarding experience to be very tiring, especially if it is their first time, therefore you may find that, just like you, it may take your pet a few days to recover from the excitement of their holiday.
Here are a few tips to help your pet regain their usual energy levels and get back to their enthusiastic selves in no time:
- Have your pets usual sleeping position ready and waiting for them, this way when your pet is over the excitement of being home they can go straight to their bed and have a little snooze if they feel the need.
- If your pet is tired allow them a day or two to rest before trying to resume your normal home routine (you will probably even find the break will benefit you trying to recuperate from your holiday as well!).
- If you are trying to get your feline friend used to being home again keep them inside the house for a few days until they have settled back in and then, if they are used to being outside, you can allow them to explore your yard again. During your feline friends time inside don’t forget to provide a litter tray for their relief.
Many pets, upon returning home, will be extremely excited and may try to gulp down a lot of water, or even food, this is a normal behaviour. To help your pet avoid getting an upset stomach from running around with a belly full of water limit the amount of water your pet is able to drink for the first few hours; only put a very small amount of water in the bowl at a time (a few mouthfuls at any one time) and don’t refill the bowl straight away when it is empty.
The same also applies with food, allow your pet to settle in again before offering them food as the excitement can cause the animals to feel sick and may even result in the food coming out of the wrong end of the pet!!
After a few hours, your pet should have had time to be relaxed and offered full water bowls and normal meals (given that they haven’t already had today’s meal before returning home) again without any sore stomachs.
